On February 9th, Japan’s biggest International Children’s Film Festival, “Tokyo Kinder Film Festival” held a screening event with LIVE German voice-over for “Animation” which Japan is proud of as a culture. The festival was held during the term of “Berlin International Film Festival” at a multi-purpose hall of Japanese Embassy in Germany. The newest Japanese animations and the masterpiece “3000 Leagues in Search of Mother”which is the collaboration of two Japanese famous producers who are leading the animation world in Japan, Takahata and Miyazaki will be screened. Films are LIVE dubbed in German by German voice actors during the screening. There is also a workshop related to animation held. This event is not only for watching, but also to participate and experience Japanese culture.

The place was filled with kids from babies on strollers and 10 years old children both Japanese and German. Japanese animation, “Komaneko” made audience laugh. Also, the voice actor LIVE dubbed the 25 minutes long film, “The Forgotten Toys”. It seemed even little kids like 2 or 3 years old were focusing on watching those films, and enjoyed our Japanese film festival.

The program to enjoy the famous Japanese films. We could see that both parents and children were being emotional and crying by watching “A Dog of Flanders.” Also, from the film “3000 Leagues in Search of Mother,” they were laughing but at the same time, it was impressive how seriously they were focusing on that film.

Kids who are age between 2 and 7 participated this workshop. Not only kids, their parents were also trying to create their original “Kineko” together. Once they were done, they wore those Kineko’s headwear and tales, and a lot of them kept watching the films with those after the workshop.
