As reported through the AP, the 80-year-old Charles Manson was issued a wedding license to wed 26-year-old Afton Elaine Burton. Further, Burton has spent the last nine years working to exonerate Mason. For the moment, put aside the fact that Charles Mason is in prison because of his involvement is one the most horrific mass murders in American history. That’s right, step back from the obvious for a few moments.
Afton Elaine Burton is 26. She has been working for nine years to exonerate Charles Manson. I know this may seem like a common core math problem, but that would mean that she started this journey when she was 17. That would also mean that her fascination with Manson started even earlier. Is this love or a desperate cry for help? Perhaps it is neither. Perhaps her aim is even more diabolical. What if they have children? Will she teach her children enough to carry on Manson’s mission? That is a serious question? Will she be spouting out Manson babies as fast as she can? Some gene pool should not be allowed to split cells. It is likely that we are looking at two such examples right there.
Enter the fact that Charles Manson is in prison for his role in the death of many other people. Mass murder, Charles Manson… Get the picture? If you are in prison for killing someone else, let alone killing multiple people, should you be entitled to the merest of joys? Why should the state allow Manson to marry? Why should they allow Manson to have sex? Why should they allow Manson any iota of normalcy? He ended the lives of people who should be enjoying their lives. People who should have had children, wives, lovers, and grandchildren. Those people, who are dead, received none of those things because of Charles Manson. Should he be allowed to marry?
