A microchip is small about the size of a grain of rice. The chip is injected just under the skin of your pet, right below the collar between the shoulder blades. The injection is the same as getting a vaccination. The chip holds a very important number that is unique to your pet. When you have your pet microchipped you have to go to the manufacturer and register the chip in your name and address. You must keep this information updated if you want to be notified when your pet is found. No it will not track your pet for you. If your pet is lost for any reason, when found the pet is taken to a shelter or veterinarian and scanned with a wand.
The wand will pick up the microchip and display the number. The website can look up any chip of any manufacturer.
So why microchip your pet? If your pet gets lost for any reason, anyone that picks him/her up can have them scanned to find the owner. If your pet is stolen and there is a dispute on who owns them, the chip will resolve that dispute. If there is a disaster, like a tornado and your pet is lost during the storm, the chip will get your pet returned to you.
Fur Babies Adoptions offers microchipping for the public at all of their events for only $20.00 which includes free lifetime registration of the chip. All of our chips are registered to Fur Babies Adoptions. When you register the chip Fur Babies then becomes the secondary owner. This is a bonus to all of our clients, if for some reason you cannot be reached when your pet is found, they will contact Fur Babies. We keep records on all of our chips so we can also work on finding the owner.
Note: The only tracking devices available at this time attach to a collar, if the dog loses the collar or a thief cuts it off, you can no longer track your animal.
