Every year dogs suffer and die when their owners make the foolish mistake of leaving them in a parked car, event for just a few minutes to run an errand or two. Parked cars are death traps for dogs. On a 78-degree day the temperature inside a parked car can soar to between 100 and 120 degrees in just minutes, and on a 90-degree day the interior temperature can reach as high as 160 degrees in just 10 minutes.
Even with the windows cracked that still doesn’t keep the interior of the car cool enough. Animals can sustain brain damage or heatstroke in just 15 minutes. So while you run one little errand, your dog can be dying of heatstroke. Dogs only can cool themselves by panting and sweating through their paw pads.
So I say in being a good pet parent you must be responsible and never leave your furbabies alone in a car especially in the heat of summer. And if you see a dog alone in a car, and in distress, please call 911 right away because that furbaby is counting on all of us.
