Composer Michael Wandmacher creates an eerie, industrial score to The Last Exorcism: Part II, produced by horror-maven Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever) and starring MTV Award Nominee Ashley Bell. The score album is available tomorrow, Tuesday June 11, 2013 on Screamworks Records, and the film is available on DVD in the US June 18, 2013. Part II follows young Nell Sweetzer as she tries to rebuild her life after being possessed by a demon, only to find herself possessed by malevolent forces once again. Michael Wandmacher created a unique sonic palette for The Last Exorcism: Part II, dedicating specific sounds to various thematic elements of the film.
Wandmacher’s creative performance techniques, having the instruments “bend, groan and scream,” allowed him to write an original, unsettling score for instruments the audience only thinks they are familiar with. Wandmacher comments, “The demonic presence in the film is expressed through highly unusual use of stringed instruments like guitarviol, cello and psaltery.” Wandmacher, who has previously helmed scores for horror films including Piranha and My Bloody Valentine, evoking mystery, anxiety and sheer terror through deeply textured electronics, altered piano and orchestral avant-garde writing.
Michael Wandmacher is an inventive composer with a long filmography of horror films including My Bloody Valentine, Piranha, and Cry Wolf. Wandmacher’s compositional styles range from traditional orchestration to grungy industrial textures. Other scoring credits include The Punisher: War Zone and Never Back Down, as well as the videos games Twisted Metal, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Singularity.
