The privilege to serve one’s country is an honor that should never be taken lightly. Yet, when you come from privilege the idea of honor is not always as shiny as image. Take Hunter Biden, son of VP Joe Biden. His recent discharge from the Navy, for testing positive for cocaine, should be a national disgrace. Instead, the mid-forties Biden sloughs it off with a statement issued via his lawyer.
“It was the honor of my life to serve in the U.S. Navy, and I deeply regret and am embarrassed that my actions led to my administrative discharge. I respect the Navy’s decision. With the love and support of my family, I’m moving forward.”
Sounds heart-warming, but it’s only part of the story. You see, Hunter Biden should never have been allowed to serve in the Navy. He already had cocaine laced past and for 99% of Americans that would be enough to bar entry into the armed forces. Not, so when your daddy is the Vice President of the United States. When that happens, exceptions are made.
Hunter Biden entered the Navy at the age of 44. Pretty late in age for a new recruit. Not a problem when you are the son of the Vice President of the United States. Hunter Biden received a waiver from the Navy that allowed the over-aged recruit to join. Not sure that much of an imagination is needed to figure out from whence the support for that waiver came. Even sadder, Hunter Biden did not have to work his way up towards the top. He entered as an Ensign, which is two stops short of a Lieutenant, in a program that was designed to bring in top talent to the Navy. Privilege on top of privilege is what Hunter Bidden has squandered. Not only should he never have been allowed to be in the Navy, his lack of apathy for his mistakes is casually dismissed with the statement
“With the support from my family, I am moving forward.”
I am sorry, but wasn’t the support from of his family the very reason he got into the Navy? Did he get the boot from the Navy and land in a rehab program? Doesn’t seem that way, he just went on with his life as though nothing happened. He states in his public apology, presented by his lawyer .
“It was the honor of my life to serve in the U.S. Navy.”
Um… No, it wasn’t the honor of his life to serve in the U.S Navy, or he would not have put his own habits above those of the nation. The honor of serving in the Armed Forces of the United States is not about privilege, it is about putting the needs of your country above your own needs. It is about standing up for what is right, even in the face of danger. Being discharged from the Navy is not something at which you shrug your shoulders and then casually walk away as though nothing has happened.
In his statement he says, “I deeply regret and am embarrassed that my actions led to my administrative discharge.” He does not say that he is sorry that he used cocaine. He does not say that he is sorry that he is apparently an addict. He does not say anything other than he is sorry he was discharged. Disgusting. There are honest and hard working young men and women from all walks of life in the Armed Forces. These are people who work tirelessly to uphold the rules and honor of the Navy, Army, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and the National Guard. Hunter Biden not only shunned his duty to this nation, he dissed every single hard working member of the Armed Forces. He made every sacrifice made by a member of the armed services a joke. Sadly, he did what he was trained to do. He took the handout and the easy way out because he is privileged. He knows that as one door closes firmly behind him that another golden opportunity will be opened by his father. Disgusting! What kind of employer would stoop to hiring someone like this? He has a long history of cocaine use, and now he has been discharged by the Navy. What is not stated is the caliber of the discharge. It does not say, Dishonorably Discharged. It only says discharged. Was that another gift from daddy? Wow people, this is a winner, NOT!
