Three weeks before CYBER MONDAY hackers have managed to steal credit and debit card details, email addresses, and more. Is shopping online even safe these days? One has to wonder as more big retailers continue to get hit by hackers. Hackers are crafty, and Home Depot is puzzled that such a brazen attack has not been seen before. Well hello! Technology moves lightning fast, and hackers are frontrunners in producing new technology to get what they want.
The hackers were able to access the Home Depot site via a hacked account. Once inside they installed specially created malware that disabled cybercrime software and installed itself at the self-checkout counter. There is collected all of the data that loyal customers gave it. Did you pay with a credit card, Home Depot card, debit card? If so you may want to contact your lender and demand a new card. Home Depot assures shoppers that the hacker programs have been cleared, but they didn’t know the programs were in place since April. That’s seven months of hacked data. That is seven months of WTF. Why did it take so long for HD to discover they had been hacked? Oddly, the estimated cost of this hacking event has already totalled up to $62 Million, but HD says it is unlikely that consumers have anything about which to worry. Happy Cyber Monday people. Think twice about shopping online.
