The fight is on again over whether or not dangerous dogs should be kept as pets. RIP Edward Cahill. The 40-year-old man was found dead by his wife on Christmas Day. The suspect was his beloved pet Pit Bull lovingly named Fat Boy.
The argument has long been that these types of dogs are deadly and on December 25th, Fat Boy proved that Pit Bull’s are deadly. At the heart of the argument, is the question whether or not the dogs behavior is instinctual or brought about by bad owners and negligent training.
For the wife, what a way to find the man you love. Cahill reportedly died of massive blood loss due to multiple bite marks on his arms and face. The story of what happened keeps changing as the wife is trying to maintain that the death of her husband by mauling was a complete accident. In a report filed by Fox news, Blanca Rodriguez, Cahill’s wife, states that her husband may have been playing with the dog when the incident occurred. She tells the story that both dogs (they owned two Pit Bulls) had received an early Christmas Present of large bones. She suspected that Cahill was playing “Keep-Away” with the dog by playing with the bone. What really occurred will never be known. In a contradictory statement to police, she is quoted as saying that Fat Boy was aggressive and unpredictable and that she had asked Cahill to have to dog put down.
What is known is that this is not the first incident where a Pit Bull has killed a human, including its owner. Not only did Cahill die on Christmas Day, So did Fat Boy. Animal Control offers used a Tazer to subdue the dog and then euthanized him.
Cahill is survived by his wife and two daughters. It remained unclear if both dogs were destroyed.
