Genesis 3:9 “And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?”
Consider this scripture for a moment, and simply ponder the fact that an all-knowing, all-seeing and all-powerful God would ever have to ask this simple question. A question that reverberates and resonates through time and until this very day. Adam where are art thou? As an Emergency Medical Dispatcher Trainer and Supervisor I train our emergency dispatchers to get 3 facets of where the emergency is: the location, the position, and the alignment. Where an emergency is, is not simply to get an address, but you must know where it is utilizing Global Positioning Satellites, Longitude and Latitude and what is it near in relation to a known point or (resection) for you ‘old school soldiers,’ lastly be able to convert this from Longitude and Latitude to Grid-coordinates for Emergency first responders and or helicopters that will have to negotiate terrain easier. Once this is established and we verify a phone number the questioning will be of the Status of the patient.
This ranges from Alpha not life threatening to Echo the most serious and grave. God knew everything about Adam when he asked this question. He knew what Adam had did, and even when he had done it. But the bible tells us in 1 John 2 “if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” Lawyers whom become litigators, are taught never to ask a question you don’t know the answer to, so in this instance the Father knew and always knows the answer. However the unwavering variable is our answer, and our perspective and our excuses. This takes on an entirely profound meaning because emblematically man is substituted for Adam because he was first man and we could personalize it even more by using your name and asking _____, where are you? What would the answer be?
As a man God eventually asks all of us; where are you, spiritually, where are you in relationship to Him the Father. Where are you in a cruel world? Where are you for your kids? Where are you in your prayer life? Where you are in taking care of what’s yours? What we have to understand and get in our Spirit is it’s not about religion, it’s about relationship. He wants a relationship with us, as a father wants with his son. He wants to see in us the resemblance and duplication that He is in this world when he looks at each and every one of us. He wants to see himself.
God has ordained men with an incredible assignment, and responsibility. Not only did God give us the command to “dress and keep” in Genesis 2:15 which translates to work and protect in Hebrew, but the bible tells us that our assignment was predetermined before the world even existed, in Ephesians 1:1111 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. God reveals to us that he will give unto thee keys of the kingdom in Matthew 16:19, and there are so many scriptures that make mention of and elude to the masculinity of a man. And there are so many scriptures that we as men that mention and single out the responsibility of man in this world. He makes reference to hearts not being circumcised and then tells us in Colossians In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ. Our flesh is an acronym meaning our feelings, lack, ego, selfishness, and hate. God created us 3 part being so the bible says it’s our reasonable service to worship him who made us fearfully and wonderfully.
What’s bigger and more emblematic is we are under attack by the god of this world Satan himself, who inundates and bombards our music, our culture, our youth. He subtly twists our legislature and society to allow and encourage sinfulness. Men we must come into agreement as it says in 2 Corinthians 10: 4 says that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God for the pulling down of strongholds and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. We must unite across this land, and pray. Let unity transcend race, age, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and employ the principles of unity that God ordained and maintains from 1 Corinthians 1:10 we must speak the same thing (The Word of God); there can be no division; we must be joined fitly together; have the same mind and the same judgement. I know most people say and understand that the bible says; Judge not lest ye be judged in Matthew 7:1, but what needs to be rightly divided is the truth about the translation. This word judge, in this context translates from the Greek word krino which means condemnation eternally. And none of us have a heaven and a hell to put anyone, but in the bible also gives us wisdom and understanding in 1 Corinthians 2:14-15 when it says; “but the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God for they are foolishness unto him neither can he know them because they are not spiritually discerned but he that is spiritual judgeth all things yet he himself is judged of no man” This judge is the Greek word anakrino which means to investigate, interrogate, and discern. Men where are we?
