Most all of the rescues in NE Oklahoma know each other and talk to each other about animals that need rescue. It has been puppy and kitten season for a couple of months, this year seems longer than most have. Rescues many times deal with the same people. Many times people will call a rescue to advise them of the litter of puppies or kittens they have and need to find homes for. People with litters get worried they are going to have to feed all of these babies, suddenly their “emergency” becomes someone else’s problem. They HAVE to be gone by tomorrow, it seems many people that have unwanted litters get evicted.
We all have heard, if they are not gone by tomorrow I will__________________. This blank can be many negative threatening things, from letting them run free and survive if they can, or I will have to get rid of them another way. I have even been told I will shoot them if you don’t come get them by tonight. Some of the stories are not realistic, one man said he lived in an apartment and found these puppies in the bed of his pickup, he can’t keep the puppies because they chase his goats. Really an apartment complex that allows goats.
Knowing there are puppies or kittens out there that need us, but we are already full, weighs heavily on our minds, we worry about them probably more than the owners do. What a shame for these helpless blameless babies. $40.00 at a clinic could have prevented all this trouble. Please understand all rescues are trying the best they can, but we too have to have somewhere to put these litters. Most of us have more pets than we should have. Our hearts are often bigger than are homes.
