Some songs just take you to another place. The Zombies’ 1968 hit “Time of the Season” is one of those songs. As soon as you hear that opening drum fill and sexy, serpentine bassline, you are there. For me, I am instantly transported to a hot summer evening on the beach on the verge of Night, sun coming down the horizon with a fading, yet brilliant splattering of red, orange and yellow hues. The air is sticky with humidity, but the heat and moisture feel good.
The darkness and the night’s mystery is just on that horizon, and you brim with anticipation. The pure sensual energy of this song is so palpable, you can practically touch it. Just a complete sensory overload. As the song progresses, you not only see and feel the music, you smell it. There is a whiff of incense and a hint of love in the air and it only adds to the sensual ambience. I can’t even imagine how many children were conceived to this tune.
