The Los Angeles Rams played their first game back in L.A. for the first time since they left the city decades ago on Sunday, and as expected, the Los Angeles Coliseum was filled with fans excited to see football back in Los Angeles. With such a big event in the entertainment capital of the world, a lot of celebrities were also in attendance, including Cleveland Cavaliers star, LeBron James. While the Rams overcame the NFL odds to defeat the Seattle Seahawks, James was getting an earful from the fans.
As one of the most polarizing figures in the NBA, James has had his share of haters over his career, but after bringing a championship to Cleveland this summer, most of his past sins seemed to have been forgiven by his detractors.
As a big football fan, particularly the Dallas Cowboys, James has taken in a few games over the years. As a resident of Los Angeles, James decided to forgo being a Cowboys fan for a day and decided to support his local team instead.
LeBron James showed up at the Coliseum with team owner Stan Kroenke, while wearing the team’s colors. While it was surprising to see James with Kroenke, who had to sell the Denver Nuggets when he purchased the Rams to avoid a conflict of interest, it wasn’t surprising to see him on the sidelines because he is a big football fans and regularly attends games whenever he gets a chance.
Despite being known to be a big football fan and a fan favorite at most of the stadiums he visits, Rams fans weren’t happy to see James on the sidelines and let him know about it.
While he was watching the game, James was serenaded with “Kobe” chants, with fans referencing the former Los Angeles Lakers star that retired in April.
Over the years, Los Angeles has been labelled a city that doesn’t care about its sports, especially after losing two NFL franchises. However, that’s not a fair assessment, because football fans in the city are crazy about their college teams and fill up the stadium every weekend.
One name in particular that is revered in Los Angeles is that of Kobe Bryant, who has a very loyal following in the city. In Los Angeles, Kobe Bryant can do no wrong, and is considered by many fans to be the next best player since Michael Jordan.
Since James entered the league, there has been a lot of comparisons made between him and Bryant, and despite the fact that James came into the league seven years after Bryant, people tried to turn them into rivals.
While James eventually won the elusive NBA title three times, and has won four MVP awards compared to Bryant’s one, in Los Angeles, Bryant is the real king.
Once the action started, fans eventually turned their focus back to the football game, and by the time it was over, they likely forgot why they were booing James since the Rams ended up winning the game. The one thing James will likely take away from the situation is that no matter how many awards or championships he wins, Los Angeles will always belong to the Black Mamba.
