A Bronx Tale has to be one of my all-time favorite movies. You have danger, romance and a valuable life lesson that’s applicable to everyone. For anyone who may fall under the category of living under a rock or in outer space – here’s the meat and potatoes of the storyline. You have this cute little tenderoni by the name of Calogero.
He’s growing up in the 60s in the streets of the Bronx, hint, hint I think title somehow gives his locality away unless you are deaf, dumb or blind – the name A Bronx Tale. Calogero idolizes this neighborhood mobster named Sonny who in comparison to his father is a stark contrast. Anyways, Calogero also known as “C” falls for this black chick Jane which is no good in his neighborhood or the time frame the story takes place in.
Long story short the two have a fight, they eventually make up, Sonny bites the bullet and “C” realizes at the end of the day the two men in this life who meant so much to him (his father and Sonny) have taught him one of life’s greatest lesson” Wasted Talent”.
With that being said, I’ve always wondered what happen to “C” and Jane. The movie ends with Sonny’s funeral and no sequel has ever been made and all we know in the end is Calogero decision to go forward with his relationship with Jane. The absolution of did they stay together? Did they fall apart? What did their families say? Is never answered. Well, what if I was to tell you that there was a real life Calogero and Jane? Would you believe it? Well it’s true… kind a sort of… but not really…
I’m actually referring to Angelo Nicosia a former Genovese associate and his current wife Dion. As the story goes, Angelo met Dion while she was bartending in a trendy lounge that was also a mob hangout. Despite the fact that Angelo was married the two carried on a rather public affair. As time goes on, Dion finds herself in a very delicate situation (she got knocked up) and Angelo makes a very surprising move. He divorces his wife and marries Dion. Needless to say, this guy had balls of steel! I mean, the Genovese family at that time is known to be very traditional and extremely secretive. Things could’ve definitely gone the other way for him. But in the end, Angelo was not a “Made Guy” so he got a pass.
Seriously, when you think about all the things you can die for in the life, who wants to be known for getting taken out over pussy, really! I digress, so the two get married and have a little bambina (a baby girl for Italian illiterate). Unfortunately, things did take a turn for the worst.
In 2008, Angelo was found guilty of extortion and extortion conspiracy. To make matters worse, after completing his sentence he was deported back to Italy. Believe it or not despite the two’s obstacles they are still together to this very day. Dion is still here in the states and Angelo has a business over in Italy. I guess this the part where I say they lived happily ever after, so I will, but not before quoting an Italian phrase that simplifies the moral of this story l’amore vince su tutto, it’s kinda corny but kinda fitting don’t you think?
