With debts, loans, and day care costs many are faced with a decision to make, second job or side hustle. Unfortunately, this is the reality of many. Let’s take a real comprehensive look at both.
Second Job
For many the need to get a second job is a reality. The second job is usually to help to overcome a financial hurdle of some kind. Whether you want to pay off a credit card, or trying to pay off a school loan the second job can be a blessing. Second jobs such as waitressing or cashiering in a grocery store can certainly help with the financial hurdle.
They are consistent but many don’t realize that while you may make $20.00 per hour at your day job, the second job will be in many cases less than half that. Minimum wage has raised to over $10.00 an hour in many states but remember the second job will be less hours than your day job. So, you will be doing a lot of work for very little pay. However, the pay will be consistent and if you get tips with your second job, even better!
Side Hustle
The side hustle can be many different things, from getting money for your YouTube channel to being a consultant for Mary Kay. There are many different types of side hustles that can prove to be quite profitable. Some sells items on Amazon while others use Network Marketing. Network Marketing used to have a bad rap especially since the Federal Trade Commission warned everyone away from it. Then Facebook changed the playing field. The problem with network marketing is that it takes time to be consistent for a lot of people. It isn’t a consistent paycheck right off of the bat. You get money the more people you sign up to be consultants or distributors yourself. Some make six figures doing this but even for them it took time to build their business.
Whether you decide on the second job or the side hustle, there are many opportunities to be profitable. All you have to do is look for the opportunities that fit you the best. The more you love the second job or side hustle the less it will feel like work.
