It’s with great pleasure I’m writing about the Chicago Cubs big win against the Cleveland Indians with an 8-7 score in game seven, which lasted a grueling 10 innings. When Game seven was complete, the Cubs were the 2016 World Series champions for the 1st time since 1908! I’m not a huge Baseball fan and I typically don’t watch the sport, but I found the so called “Curse of the Billy Goat” both peculiar and honestly downright amusing. The curse was supposedly placed on the Cubs in 1945 by William Sianis after he brought his goat Murphy to the 1945 World Series between the Cubs and the Detroit Tigers. The stench of his goat was too much for fellow patrons and William was told he had to remove Murphy from the stadium. This enraged Sianis because he apparently bought two box seats one for himself the other for his beloved goat and was kicked out at the 4th inning.
There are several accounts of how the curse became. One of the accounts say that as William Sianis and his goat were being ejected from Wrigley Filed he declared ” Them Cubs , they aint gonna win no more”. Another account claims that he dispatched a telegram to the team owner Philip Wrigley which read ” You are going to lose this World Series and you’ll never win another World Series again, because you insulted my goat”.
Some believe the curse actually originated in 1908, which was the last time the Cubs won the World Series. It’s said that they “angered” the Baseball gods because of the underhanded way that they advanced to that year’s World Series. Whatever has plagued the Cubs for all these years miraculously came to an end on November 2, 2016 and left several fans overwhelmed with emotions. Super fan Bill Murray who is one of my favorite actors has been a loyal fan for years and reportedly bought fans around him beers and couldn’t contain his joy while attending game 7 at Wrigley Field.
In closing, Chicago is a wonderful place and is also my daddy’s home town! That is why I found myself cheering for the Cubs and hoping that somehow some way the curse of that damn Billy goat would finally be broken. To my delight it appears it has.
