Over time I’ve observed that I have a special affinity for artists that hail from my hometown, New York. What attracts me is a certain down-to-earth realism that not only influences choice of subject matter, but also how it is expressed. I believe the operative word here is “soul”. Robbie Dupree is from New York, and indeed possesses soul in great abundance.

You can feel this easy, pragmatic, earthy realism in Robbie’s songs. I always enjoy an artist whose CD you can put on…. and leave on. Robbie is such an artist. Easy to listen to. The songs are melodic, the rhythms engaging and his vocal delivery effortless.

I noticed he released his new CD on Spectra Records; and it so happens that I have recently licensed a CD for release on Spectra as well. I guess this makes us label-mates……. partners in crime, as it were. – Gregory Abbott (Singer & Songwriter)

Sundance Institute and Mahindra today announced the winners of the 2014 Sundance Institute | Mahindra Global Filmmaking Award, in recognition and support of emerging independent filmmakers from around the world. Sundance Institute Receives $5 Million Grant from Open Society Foundations – Breaking News

Innovative documentary films addressing some of the most important issues facing the world today received a boost with a $5 million grant to the Sundance Institute. Christopher Stone, president of the Open Society Foundations, announced the dollar-for-dollar matching grant at the Sundance Film Festival.

“My foundations have long supported arts and culture–especially film–as a means to build and strengthen open societies around the world,” said George Soros, Founder and Chairman of the Open Society Foundations. “This support will help bring open society issues to a wider audience.”

The Sundance Institute’s Documentary Film Program advances nonfiction storytelling on a broad range of contemporary social issues and provides leading support for independent documentary filmmakers worldwide.

Today at a gathering of filmmakers, producers and members of the film distribution industry, at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, Keri Putnam, Executive Director, Sundance Institute, and Cathy Schulman, President, Women In Film Los Angeles, announced significant growth of a collaborative initiative designed to achieve gender parity and sustainable careers for women working in filmed entertainment.

Recent expansions of the initiative, which launched two years ago, include a deepened mentorship program, new financing intensives, an expanded network of allied organizations and new and updated research, the results of which were also released today. The study was commissioned by Sundance Institute and Women In Film Los Angeles and was conducted by Stacy L. Roy Garber Dead at 49: CAUSE of DEATH Revealed

TMZ has reported that one of the stars from A & E Shipping Wars died this past Friday. Roy Garber 49, who was very popular on the show was rushed to a hospital in Texas where he passed away shortly after from an apparent heart attack.

Our condolences go out to the Garber family in their time of grief.
