Fyvush Finkel, whose homespun moniker and putty face were comic statements all their own that helped him become a mainstay of what remained of Yiddish entertainment and who later crossed over into the television mainstream as the cantankerous lawyer from the 1990’s series ‘Picket Fences’ died on Sunday at his home in Manhattan. He was 93.
His death was confirmed by his son, Ian who said Mr. Finkel had been having heart problems for months.

Sad news to report. Glenn Yarbrough a talented folk singer who found fame and fortune with the very popular trio The Limeliters who gave up his career for a life at sea died this past Thursday at the age of 86. His cause of death was complication from dementia which was reported by his daughter Holly Yarbrough.

Sad news to report. Barbara Gibb the loving mother the Bee Gees who were comprised of Barry, Robin, and Maurice has passed away at age of 95 in Miami this past Friday. She was also the mother of Andy Gibb who was a pop star in his own regard and a daughter named Lesley. Sadly MRS Gibb outlived Andy, Maurice and Robin and endured a pain no parent should ever have to go through. For the past 20 years, she lived in Miami, but she was born in Manchester, England on November 17, 1920. Gibb and her late husband Hugh managed their son’s early career.

Sad news to report. Beloved British actor Kenny Baker who donned the R2D2 outfit in the mega hit series Star Wars has died at the age of 81 according to his niece, Abigail Shield. Baker was being looked after by Shield’s brother, who found him Saturday morning. Shield said Baker was ill for years with a lung condition.
She also said her uncle — who was 3 feet, 8 inches tall — did not expect to “live past his teenage years because he was a ‘little person,’ so it is pretty amazing he lived this long.”

I’ve been listening to the music of Frank Sinatra regularly since my formative years of high school. In my sophomore year, I received my first Sinatra album as a Christmas gift from a classmate, a compact disc of Sinatra’s next to final album at Capitol Records, the jovial 1961 release “Come Swing With Me,” with Billy May and his orchestra. Riding home from school for holiday break, I popped the disc into my amber-colored (and now fiercely antiquated) Sony CD Walkman.
Listening to the sounds of May’s lit brass section firing off stinging notes from both sides of my headphones on the opening track, “Day By Day,” it was truly the first time I had listened to a Sinatra song that wasn’t considered for (or ever part of) a greatest hits’ compilation.

It looks like Lucy’s got that Vitametavegamin taste out of her mouth – she’s finally smiling! New Lucy was unveiled this week to the delight of many fans. The bronze work of art in the town of Celoron, New York, that made a menacing figure out of the iconic (and quite beautiful) comedian Lucille Ball is no more. The original statue caused quite a few gasps during it’s 2009 unveiling as it was a quite frightening and unflattering representation of the comedic beauty.

Pete Fountain whose fans loved his playing of Dixieland Jazz on his clarinet has died at the age of 86 from heart failure. A legendary staple in the New Orleans Jazz World, he rose to fame on TV and in the day of record albums.
Benny Harrell, Fountain’s son-in-law and manager, said Fountain was in hospice care in New Orleans when he died early Saturday.

Taylor Swift sang about having “bad blood” that “used to be mad love” but Mariah Carey and the producers of American Idol are living those words. Speaking to journalists at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour on Wednesday (Aug. 3), where Carey was promoting her eight-part upcoming E! docuseries, Mariah’s World, the singer threw a major jab at the once formidable Fox show — for which she was a judge alongside rapper Nicki Minaj, country star Keith Urban and producer Randy Jackson during season 12 — calling it “an abusive experience” and cracking that talking about it would drive her “to drink.”

Some sad news to report out of Utah this evening. Ricci Martin, son of the late singer Dean Martin, and a notable performer in his own right, was found dead in his home this past Wednesday. Although no cause of death has been released, it can be assumed his death is related to a permanent pulmonary injury sustained in a fall this past winter, as announced by Ricci himself in a British tour cancellation notice on his Facebook page.

Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has revealed that he currently believes Peter Capaldi will continue playing the Doctor beyond the end of the next season. Capaldi joined as the Twelfth Doctor in 2013 and Season 10 will be his third season in the role.
Matt Smith and David Tennant both played the Doctor for three full seasons, as did Peter Davison, Patrick Troughton and Sylvester McCoy. Tom Baker remains the longest-serving (and best) Doctor, starring in 172 episodes over seven seasons.
